Glass Encoder Disc

High-precision transmissive glass-substrate encoder discs made by photolithographic patterning, for high-resolution optical encoders.

Glass encoder discs use optical glass as the substrate, with high-precision graduation patterns formed on the surface by photolithographic patterning; they are transmissive discs. Light passing through the transparent and opaque areas of the disc is received by photodetectors and converted into position signals. With good thermal stability and high graduation accuracy, glass is the mainstream choice for medium- to high-resolution optical encoders.
